8 Reasons for Dry Hair
What is the quickest way to say bye bye to dry hair?
Fly aways, split ends and just feeling frizzy all over getting you down? Oh man, can I relate. Having curly hair my whole life, it has been a constant battle for me to combat dry frizzy hair! However, did you know frizz and fly aways are our hairs way of pulling moisture from the air? This month I am diving in deep.
First, lets look at the 6 reasons for dry hair and then lets look at some solutions.
Why Dry Hair?
1. The Elements: sun, wind, cold, chlorine, air conditioners, heaters, etc.
2. The Heat: dryers, hot tools, flat irons
3. The Color: Our chemical color make up lives within the cortex of the hair. To reach that inner cortex, chemicals must break the bonds of the hair. This can eventually dry our hair out. Lighteners are not a conditioning treatment and are more alkaline to lift out the color molecules.
4. The Smoothers: overuse of silicones and smoothing treatments can dry hair
5. The Over Washers: shampooing too frequently with stripping non-salon quality suds
6. The Hormones: pregnancy, menopause, birth control pills, vitamin deficiencies, thyroid
7. The Wet Brush: Brushing hair wet…instead of combing it.
8. The Wet Walkers: Walking outside with wet hair in overly cold weather
The good news is there are some winning easy solutions to combat dry hair! Here are 6 ways I am winning at having lustrous and moisturized hair.
